L’Obama, ossia L’Avvento del Messia
James Calvert came up with this brilliant opera idea - here's a link to the Classical Music and Opera Forum where he first published the story in September 2008.

Act One opens at La Piazza del Cattedrale di Washington on the day after the USA elections...
Thank you Polly Mason, for bringing this to my attention. Enjoy!

YouTube Symphony
Have a listen to this - it is awesome and a very interesting concept: use the Internet to have musicians from all over the world perform a single piece of music. This is Tan Dun's composition "Internet Symphony, Eroica".
Read more about this Google/YouTube project in the Google blog: YouTube Symphony Orchestra: from idea to reality, published on 15 April.
And here is the London Symphony Orchestra's rendition:

Rosebush Cards
The name Rosebush is an amalgamation of our names, Rose from Rosi, and Bush from the anglicised part of Labuschagne.

Here we are busy at work one Sunday afternoon.
We have plenty of plant material spread about on the office floor. We have learnt over the years we've been making the cards for fund-raising, what presses well and what doesn't.

And here are a couple of samples of our handiwork. All are totally unique, some work according to plan and others are the subject of a bit of serendipity!

We sell them at the monthly sales table, for $3.00 each. They are blank inside so people can write their own greetings.

John Matheson - Obituary in ODT today
John Matheson's obituary was in the ODT today. He was a Dunedin educated conductor - Otago Boys and University of Otago.
In 1982 he conducted a concert in Dunedin of the Verdi Requiem. The Schola Cantorum of Dunedin took part, with the NZSO. I think Donald McIntyre was the Bass Soloist.
